For the skyline itself
Mr. A's — Bankers Hill. Twelfth floor just north of downtown, with the airport approach, the bay and the whole skyline in one window. Not technically a rooftop, but the best view-dining room in San Diego and the most grown-up. Restaurant site.
How to book
- Game nights sell out. If the Padres are home, book the Nolen or Altitude two to three weeks ahead.
- Sunset is the seating you want — the light coming off the bay is the reason to be up there. Take the 5:30 or 6.
- Bring a layer. San Diego evenings drop into the low 60s year-round once the marine air comes in, and rooftops feel it first.
- May and June are grey. "May Gray" and "June Gloom" are real; the clearest rooftop months are September and October.
Where to stay
