Why this stretch wins on parade morning
Three practical reasons. First, the avenue is 100 feet wide, so the balloons have room and you can see them coming for blocks. Second, the crowd spreads over twenty blocks instead of compressing at a corner, so arriving at 7 a.m. still gets you a real view. Third, when it ends, you are already in Midtown — restaurants, the Rockefeller tree, the shops — instead of stuck in the Herald Square crush.
