- Da Vinci Hotel — West 56th, a residential-feeling block, close to both the Circle and 6th Avenue.
- Moderne Hotel NYC — West 55th, compact rooms, reliable for a two-night holiday stay.
What to do the night before
Balloon Inflation happens the day before Thanksgiving in the streets around the American Museum of Natural History, and staying in this cluster is the only way to walk to it without a plan. It is the most underrated part of parade weekend and, for most families, the calmer half.

Be on the sidewalk by 6:30 a.m. Pick a cross street between 70th and 75th rather than aiming for the very start; the barricades are less packed and the balloons are only two minutes older. Bring cash, because nothing takes long lines well on Thanksgiving morning.
