Nine Mistakes Beginners Make (and the Fix for Each)

None of these are complicated. That is exactly why they are so common.

1. Joining fifteen programs on day one

You end up managing accounts instead of making content. Fix: join one, use it properly for a month.

2. Linking to a homepage

You wrote 800 words about one hotel and then dropped the reader on a search page. Fix: link to the exact page you described.

3. Never testing the link

Broken or mistyped links are silent. Nothing tells you. Fix: click every link yourself after publishing, on your phone.

4. No disclosure

Beyond the trust cost, disclosure is a legal requirement in many places, including under the FTC's endorsement rules in the United States. Fix: one clear line near the top and near the link. Every time.

5. Writing dream content instead of decision content

Sunsets get likes. "Where to stay and what it costs" gets bookings. Fix: for every inspiration post, publish one decision post.

6. Checking the dashboard every hour

It changes slowly. Watching it is a way of feeling productive without being productive. Fix: check weekly, on the same day.

7. Expecting confirmed money immediately

Travel commissions usually stay pending until the trip happens. Fix: read how you actually get paid and set your expectations before you set your hopes.

8. Recommending things you have not vetted

The fastest way to lose an audience is to send them somewhere disappointing for a commission. Fix: recommend what you know, and say clearly when you have not been somewhere yourself.

9. Quitting in week three

This is the big one. The work is front-loaded and the reward is back-loaded, so the middle feels like failure. Fix: commit to a fixed number of published pieces, not a number of dollars. Judge yourself on output for the first three months.

Almost nobody fails at affiliate marketing because the strategy was wrong. They fail because they stopped before the results arrived.
